Weighing 1172 grams, this is the lightest wheelset in the range. Thanks to the carbon spokes, the special front/rear spoke pattern and the purpose-built hub, Shimano keeps the system weight low without compromising on stiffness. Thus, the wheels remain highly responsive, which is essential as soon as you stand out of the saddle.
The entire Dura-Ace R9370 series has been developed in collaboration with WorldTour teams and professional triathletes, with the aim of achieving an ideal balance between stiffness, low weight and aerodynamics. Within this range, the C36 is the dedicated model for climbing.
Carbon spokes with a clever layout
The Dura-Ace C36 road bike wheels uses carbon spokes in a pattern of 18 at the front and 21 at the rear. This layout keeps the weight down while making the set stiff enough for rapid acceleration, which is exactly what you want when standing up on a climb.
Aerodynamically optimised rim
The 36 mm rim was developed using computer simulations; results were validated in the wind tunnel. According to Shimano, this rim is 7% more aerodynamic than the previous model. So, even on a climbing wheel you can cut through the air with a bit more ease.
Renewed cup & cone hubs
Shimano sticks with the adjustable cup & cone hub design, renowned for its smooth running and precise adjustment. You can adjust the play yourself to achieve exactly the feel you want. With replaceable bearing cups, an improved waterproof seal and good serviceability, the hub will last for years.
Compatible with:
• Road bikes with disc brakes and 12 mm thru-axles (100x12 mm front, 142x12 mm rear).
• Shimano 12-speed road bike cassettes (such as Dura-Ace R9200, Ultegra R8100 and 105 R7100).
• Disc brake rotors with the Center Lock mounting system.
• Tubeless tyres as well as standard folding and clincher tyres with inner tubes. The ideal tyre width is 28 mm to 30 mm.
Not compatible with:
• Shimano 11-speed (or 10-speed) cassettes.
• SRAM XDR or Campagnolo cassettes (Shimano does not produce separate sprocket bodies for other brands to fit these wheels).
• Bikes with rim brakes or quick-release axles.
• Disc brake rotors with a 6-bolt installation system (unless you use an adapter).
Not sure? Here’s how to check:
Take a close look at the cassette currently fitted to your bike: Count the number of sprockets at the rear to make sure you’re riding a 12-speed, and check that it says "Shimano" on it. Also measure the width of your current axles (the standard is 100 mm at the front and 142 mm at the rear).
- Front wheel, rear wheel or both
- Tubeless valves and pre-fitted tubeless rim tape
Not included / still needed or simply handy:
- Center Lock disc brake rotors
- A cassette compatible with your groupset
- A wheel bag for safe transport of your carbon wheels
- Do you ride tubeless? Replace the sealant every few months to ensure its reliability.
- You can adjust the cup & cone hubs yourself. Notice any play? Adjust the cone yourself or have it done by a professional bike mechanic.
- Store your carbon wheels in a wheel bag when transporting them in a car to keep the rims and spokes in good condition.
